Introduction:

There is all kinds of recent research showing that the herb ashwagandha is great for stress, anxiety and insomnia. What’s more is that it can do double duty, helping people who struggle with both insomnia and anxiety (Cureus 2019;11(9):e5797; J Ethnopharmacol 2021;264,113276). 👊

There is also early research suggesting that ashwagandha can help cognition. The newest research suggests that it helps it all!

This double-blind study gave either a placebo or 300mg of ashwagandha root extract containing 15mg withanolides a day to 125 stressed people for 90 days. It wanted to see what ashwagandha could do for stress and the physical and psychological struggles that come with it.

Scores on the Perceived Stress Scale decreased significantly in the ashwagandha group but not in the placebo group and significantly more in the ashwagandha group. Levels of the stress hormone cortisol significantly decreased only in the ashwagandha group. Scores on tests of cognition, including memory, learning and information processing, improved significantly more in the ashwagandha group.

There is all kinds of recent research showing that the herb ashwagandha is great for stress, anxiety and insomnia.

As for insomnia, scores on the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index significantly improved only in the ashwagandha group. Intriguingly, the effect of all this was that scores on the Oxford Happiness Questionnaire increased significantly more in the ashwagandha group, indicating that the herb improved happiness.

The study also found that ashwagandha did all this safely. This study suggests ashwagandha as a herb for our time that can safely reduce stress and improve the physical and psychological struggles that come with it, leading to significant improvements in happiness. Perfect!
